I believe many Impreza car owners are unsure whether it is better to use the original factory designed enlarged intercooler or simply switch to a front mounted one when upgrading their turbines? To solve this problem, it is necessary to determine the number of upgraded turbines. Due to the longer exhaust head of a horizontally opposed engine compared to a straight engine, the low-speed boost response is slower. Therefore, the original factory designed an overhead intercooler to alleviate the turbo lag problem. If the upgraded turbo number does not exceed six and the exhaust volume is less than 2.2 liters, the author does not recommend using an overhead intercooler because the extended pipeline and enlarged intercooler will make the lag problem more serious. However, when you meet the above conditions, you can consider using an overhead intercooler. On the one hand, the cooling efficiency of the overhead intercooler is no longer sufficient, and on the other hand, the large turbine has more air supply and faster flow rate, which can reduce the impact of the extended pipeline. To the minimum, it is more suitable to use a pre cooled intercooler.
